The other important factors to remember are.
Soap for washing quilts.
Add the soap to the water.
So even if you re washing a king size quilt you ll still need no more than a tablespoon of orvus added to your washing machine.
Even when orvus is sold in your local quilt store as quilt soap this stuff is concentrated.
As a last resort cotton quilts can be washed in cold water with a gentle soap by hand or in the machine on a gentle cycle.
This detergent is highly concentrated so using more than a tablespoon is a waste.
Then when removing the quilt from the tub grab ahold of the sheet instead of the quilt.
Washing even when done on a gentle cycle causes fabrics to fade and is abrasive to fibers.
When washing a quilt in a tub first line the tub with a sheet that s been pre washed with quilt soap orvus.
Full instructions are included here at how to wash a quilt safely.
When washing your quilt use cold water and a detergent that is free of any dyes bleach or scents.
Avoid washing an antique or heirloom quilt unless it s absolutely necessary.
If you use orvus add 1 tablespoon orvus to the wash water.
This will support the quilt so that stitches don t pop and fabric doesn t get strained or tear.
Hand washing is actually really easy and i think the quilts actually prefer this method over being thrown in a big spinny machine.
You can find a mild detergent at your local grocery store.
